Welchen Mobilfunkanbieter nimmt man?
Namibia’s Haupt-Mobilfunkanbieter heißt MTC. Wir empfehlen die Nutzung einer MTC SIM-Karte.
Wo bekommt man eine namibische SIM-Karte
1. Besorg dir eine eigene SIM-Karte
A) Direkt am Hosea Kutako Flughafen neben dem Gepäckband
Nutze die Zeit derweil du auf deinen Koffer wartest und gehe zum MTC-Kiosk neben den Gepäckbändern und besorg dir dort eine SIM-Karte und Guthaben bzw. Datenpaket.
B) In der Ankunfsthalle des Flughafens
Bei Flughäfen wie Hosea Kutako in Windhoek gibt es in der Ankunftshalle ein MTC-Geschäft wo man sich eine SIM-Karte inklusive Guthaben bzw. Datenvolumen besorgen kann.
C) Bei einerm MTC-Geschäft in einer größeren Stadt
Natürlich gibt es auch ausserhalb der Flughafen, in jeder größeren Stadt wie bspw. Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Gobabis, Otjiwarongo usw. MTC-Geschäfte wo man SIM-Karten kaufen kann.
Anders als früher gibt es SIM-Karten nur noch bei MTC-Geschäften zu kaufen und nicht mehr auch in Supermärkten oder ähnlichem, da man mittlerweile SIM-Karte auf seine Person registrieren lassen muss. Daher sind SIM-Karten in Namibia mittlerweile nur noch bei MTC direkt erhältlich.

We offer one sim card per rental car at no extra charge (just a cash deposit of N$200 / EUR10 / US$ 10 which you receive back once you return the sim and pin card). Alternatively MTC airtime vouchers can be purchased at fuel stations, supermarkets, kiosks, bars etc. across Namibia. Many bigger stores have a separate MTC vending machine (look for the blue and yellow machine, similar to an ATM) or ask for MTC airtime at the cashier teller.
How to recharge airtime
To recharge, SMS the airtime voucher number to 13200 from your Namibian number. Or dial *13200*rechargecode# from your Namibian sim card. If recharging was successful you will receive a confirmation SMS similar to this:
Data bundles
We strongly recommend you convert airtime into (data) bundles/buy (data) packages. Otherwise your airtime will be used up in no time. MTC offers various bundles, see details here https://mtc.com.na/prepaid/aweh:
Since most travelers primarily need data, we recommend packages such as AWEH YODATA 30.
Expiration: Please note that most packages are valid for 7 days only, but YODATA 30 is valid for 30 days.
To opt in for one of these packages: SMS from your Namibian MTC sim card to 13400 including text “awehyodata30” (or other text depending on the bundle you want)
International voice bundles
To purchase specific international voice bundles, download the MyMTC app from your App Store and purchase the required international voice bundles directly through the app.
Airtime balance enquiry
Dial *682# on your phone and follow the prompts. Reply „1“ for balance enquiry > „1“ for Airtime Balance or „5“ for Aweh bundle balance.
